Alkali Metal Ions
Alkali metal ions can be analyzed with a 4mM nitric acid eluent. When using nitric
acid eluent, the divalent and trivalent cations in the sample are absorbed onto
the column, thus after the injection of many samples the ion exchange capacity
decreases. When this phenomenon happens, 100 micro-L of 1M HNO
3
should be injected several times to regenerate the column. When performing analysis
of monovalent cations using IC
Y-521 column, use a line
filter IC
Y-521L upstream of the injector.
