Calibration Curves for GPC HT-806M and AT-806MS are shown.

Sample : Polystyrene

Compared with GPC AT-806MS and GPC HT-800 series, GPC UT-800 series are free from share degradation.

Sample :
1. Polystyrene
2. HDPE-A, High density polyethylene

Columns : Shodex GPC UT-806M, HT-806M (8.0mmID*300mm each), AT-806MS (8.0mmID*250mm)
Eluent : 0.1% BHT* in ODCB
Flow rate : 1.0mL/min
Detector : RI
Column temp. : 140deg-C

*BHT: Butylhydroxytoluene

Shodex GPC UT-800 series are designed to prevent shear degradation. However, when the columns are used with a line filter, shear degradation may be caused by the line filter. In this case, shear degradation can be prevented by removing the line filter.

HDPE sample-A was analyzed using GPC UT-806M (a column for high temperature SEC). UT-806M is free from sharedegradation.

Sample : HDPE, High density polyethylene

Columns : Shodex GPC UT-806M (8.0mmID*300mm) x 2, Conventional type column x 2
Eluent : 0.1% BHT* in ODCB
Flow rate : 1.0mL/min
Detector : RI, MALS(Multi angle laser light scattering)
Column temp. : 145deg-C

*BHT: Butylhydroxytoluene

HDPE sample-A was analyzed using GPC UT-800 series (columns for high temperature SEC).

Sample : HDPE, High density polyethylene

Columns : Shodex GPC UT-806M x 4, UT-807 + UT-806M x 2, UT-807 + UT-806M x 2 + UT-802.5 (8.0mmID*300mm each)
Eluent : 0.1% BHT* in ODCB
Flow rate : 1.0mL/min

This shows a comparison of results for the analysis of high density polyethylene (HDPE) using conventional columns and GPC UT-806M. A high molecular weight portion of around 2×107 was detected with UT-806M.

HDPE sample-B was analyzed using GPC HT-806M and UT-806M (columns for high temperature SEC).

Sample : HDPE, High density polyethylene

Columns : Shodex GPC UT-806M x 4, HT-806M x 2 (8.0mmID*300mm each)
Eluent : 0.1% BHT* in ODCB
Flow rate : 1.0mL/min
Detector : RI

*BHT: Butylhydroxytoluene

Low density polyethylene (LDPE) is analyzed using GPC HT-806M and UT-806M columns. Mw values obtained from the calibration curve are almost the same. From the results, it can be concluded that a high molecular weight portion which is subject to shear degradation does not exist in the LDPE.

Sample : LDPE, Low density polyethylene
